happy new year, all you gorgeous goal getters! chief fitlosopher angela here. every year, we watch somewhat amused as everyone rushes to set resolutions come january 1st. my issue with new year’s resolutions (not a fan) or even programs that start on january 1 is 1) my ocd self can’t stand when programs start on any other day than monday, and 2) with a birthday on the 12th, i’m definitely not skipping wine (or cake) to stick to some "rule" - 'cause it's my birthday i don't wanna. that said, i did want to start out my 2019 with a round of Whole30. so what’s a wine-loving birthday girl to do? mold a Whole30 around MY schedule, which means a mid-month kick-off. but this isn't just about me: it's for all y'all who were (like me) still recovering from the holidays the weekend before new year's + meal prep was like the furthest thing from my mind. and if you know anything about Whole30: planning is everything.
this isn't my first rodeo - in fact this will be my 4th Whole30. so i've compiled my top tips + recipes for y'all. (sorry, just celebrated my birthday in nashville so i'm feeling southern n' sassy.) here’s everything you need to know before we begin our mid-month Whole30.
who says Whole30 has to start on the 1st?? there’s no hard + fast rule that says any program MUST begin on day 1 of the month. so while i wasn’t ready to dive headfirst into it on new year’s day (but really, who is??), i am, however, chomping at the bit to get my Whole30 on post-birthday now that we’re a couple weeks into the new year. because like i said, forgoing birthday goodies was not an option for me. so, a mid-month whole30 it is!
monday, january 14 - february 13...which (good news!) means time’s up juuuuust in time for valentine’s day! phew! and that’s perfect, because we wouldn’t mind whipping up a batch of this paleo chocolate pudding on february 14th to ease our way back into a normal routine.
maybe, like us, you weren’t quite ready for a challenge like Whole30 riiiight when the clock struck midnight on day 1 of 2019. maybe you did start, but you slipped up + threw in the towel. whatever the reason, figure out your why before you begin. it’ll help you stick with the program + make you much more likely to achieve your health goals. word of advice from a Whole30/60/90 veteran: set a goal outside of weight-loss. you may not lose a pound (that's not the goal - but my dad lost 20) + you don’t want that to negatively affect your mindset after all that hard work.
before you even consider doing this, make sure you’re well versed in all the Whole30 hacks + tricks of the Whole30 trade. enlist a friend to do it with you (hey, we are!), plan ahead + above all, make sure you’re tracking your progress with fitbook or fitbook lite.

i looked forward to this coffee every single day! this version is Whole30-compliant because it uses ghee instead of butter. not sure what ghee is? keep reading.
daddy’s homemade ghee
it's like butter, but without the dairy....and oh-so-yummy. this stuff is always an integral part of both my Whole30s AND my dad’s. it’s way better + cheaper than store-bought, plus it's really easy to make. my dad shows you how step-by-step!
crockpot bison chili
this chili is my go-to for a quick, healthy hot meal. i’ll make a big batch in the crockpot, then eat on it throughout the week. it’s so easy + delicious!
crockpot sesame chicken wraps
again, the crockpot makes the hands-on prep minimal for these yummy wraps. best part about all the recipes in this link is they are one-pot wonders, which is like my love language.
pumpkin spice pecan butter
this stuff is GOOD + perfect when you need a lil snack! want more Whole30 pumpkin-infused recipes? we've got more.
