want a fun workout that feels easy, but works those muscles? jump on this.

katy here, for another edition of been there tried that! between my dabblings in goat yoga + ice-cold workouts , you never know what i’m up to next. but this month’s undertaking was possibly my favorite thus far + was a workout that had me literally bouncing off the walls - bungee!what on earth is a bungee workout, you ask? pretty much exactly what it sounds like. you’re making your way through an entire exercise routine - only while strapped to a bungee cord that supports your weight + thus enables you to get your burpee or lunge on with much greater ease + less strain to your joints.
why bungee? well, for starters, it’s just plain fun. but if you’re someone who has bad knees or hips or trouble doing certain exercises, this might just be your solution. for me, a woman who’s had questionable knees since my high school volleyball days, i was really excited about the prospect of doing a lunge without knee pain.
for my first foray into the world of bungee workouts, i chose a local studio here in atlanta called studio bungee. offering classes for everyone from kids to seniors (there are even mommy + me offerings!), i liked that they made me feel comfortable as a complete + utter bungee novice.
ten minutes before my class started, i entered the small studio space + immediately spied the bungee cords dangling from the ceiling. now, i’m what i’d characterize as a naturally bouncy person, so i was positively giddy at the thought of boinging my way through an entire exercise class. but first thing’s first: a weigh-in. i made the obligatory moans + groans that inevitably accompany the revelation that you’re about to be on the receiving end of a weigh-in, but the reality is, this weigh-in was purely for safety purposes. they wanted to make sure they chose the right bungee for the job. after all, no one wants to go flying through the air only to smash face-first into the ground because the bungee couldn’t hold your weight.
after getting hooked into the harness + attached to the bungee, it was time to get started. after bouncing around for a bit to find our footing, we began by dropping to the ground to hold a plank - much harder than it sounds when you’re hooked to a bungee cord. then we went into the exercises. burpees, followed by lunges with weights in-hand, followed by alternating bouncing lunges, followed by squats. i must say, i’ve never had so much fun doing burpees, lunges + squats in my life. in the moment, they felt so easy that i wondered if they were actually working any muscles. it wasn’t until the next day that i realized they most certainly had! last, but not least, came the cardio, which in a bungee workout, means running from one side of the room to the other as fast as you can, then leaping into the air like a stag. or in other words, the most fun thing i’ve ever done in an exercise class. i couldn’t imagine a better way to end the experience.
like i said, this is one of those classes where you don’t realize how hard you’re working until the next day when every muscle in your body is insanely sore, which i absolutely love. it’s just fun fun fun while you’re physically doing it, then it’s not until afterward that you actually realize how hard you worked those muscles.
it also really worked my core without the neck strain + soreness i usually get doing ab exercises. it’s having your cake + eating it too. what could possibly be better than that?? i cannot recommend this workout enough.
have a new workout you’re into right now? share in the comments below + i might give it a go!
