pregnancy is no cake-walk. granted, there might be cake consumption involved, but bakin’ up a little baby bun in that oven is a lot of work. and after two loooong, but relatively breezy trimesters, our resident mama-to-be, laura (aka our marketing + community creator), is finally in the home stretch of her pregnancy. we caught up with her to find out how she’s fared these past three months since our last check-in.
[so you've gotten through your second trimester! congrats!! how are you feeling?]
thanks! luckily the second trimester was a breeze. my energy was up and i haven’t felt sick, which was a huge blessing because we also moved to a new home, and i don’t think i could’ve pulled that off in my first trimester!
[what were your favorite + least favorite things about your second trimester?]
my favorite thing hands down was feeling him MOVE! i love feeling him do his little tumbles, kicks + punches. i think my least favorite part was feeling like i still have so long to go and not sleeping very well. i’m getting more uncomfortable as the weeks go by, so that makes sleeping a challenge!
[anything that surprised you about this trimester?]
probably how much he grew! i swear, my stomach got bigger every morning - especially in these last few weeks.
[so does that mean the belly has cramped your workout style?]
while my energy was up, there are moves [like classic sit-ups, push ups, etc.] that you can’t do once you hit the second trimester, that i missed doing. something i’ve really wanted to focus on is keeping my core strong throughout pregnancy, and that’s hard because there are a lot of core moves you can’t do while pregnant. i’ve been doing erica ziel’s knocked up fitness prenatal workouts and it’s so helpful because i know the moves i’m doing are safe for both me + baby. my usual workout consists of walking my dog for 30 minutes and then doing a workout from one of her dvds!
[how have your eating habits changed in the second trimester?]
i. am. always. hungry. hah! especially in the last few weeks of the second trimester. i guess it makes sense because he doubled in size in 4 weeks, but i feel like i’m constantly eating to keep up with the growth! i have found that if i eat a substantial dinner around 6, i’m pretty good to go for the rest of the night which is nice. and my food aversions from my first trimester are gone, which is great! i’m back to being able to stomach spinach salads, which were my daily lunches before so i’m very happy about that, and it helps me check off my nutrient boxes in my fitbook mama2b!
[speaking of mama2b, which fitlosophy products been most helpful to you?]
as always, our fitbook mama2b healthy pregancy journal is helping me stay on track with keeping my nutrition + workouts in check. i’m still loving the weekly fruit size comparisons + tips. i’m already excited to look back at this mama2b during my second pregnancy to see what meals i ate and how i felt. i’ve also been loving our new eat fit kit! i’ve always meal planned for dinner, but the eat fit kit has encouraged me to prep for breakfast, lunch + snacks. this saves me from rummaging through the fridge and cupboards whenever i’m hungry (which is always).
[so do you feel like mama2b is serving as a good chronicle of your pregnancy thus far?]
yes! it’s crazy to look back and see that when i started this mama2b, the baby was the size of a sweet pea and now he’s the size of a pomegranate. i also like recording how much weight i’ve gained by week. it seems that my body likes to pack on a bunch of pounds within a week or two, and then not any for a few weeks. so keeping record of this week-by-week makes me feel a little better during those “pack-it-on” weeks. ;-)
[what are you most looking forward to in your third + final trimester?]
the baby coming! while i’m so excited, it’s also pretty overwhelming to think he could be here in 12 weeks (possibly even less), and i feel very unprepared. but i’m excited to “nest” and wash his little clothes, get his nursery ready and start getting more baby things!
stay tuned for our final bump update in a couple months! curious about how laura's first trimester went? read about her healthy pregancy since day one.
