now that it’s only 21 days until summer, we figured it was high time for a challenge that’ll not only keep you hydrated in that scorching summer sun, but also help you reach your health goals - a 21-day water challenge! (you can follow along with us on instagram!) how will drinking water help you reach your goals, you might ask? getting enough agua helps keep your skin clear, your digestion moving right along and your weight in a healthy range, among other benefits. but we know it’s not always easy to get in enough of the clear stuff each day. exactly how much water do you need each day? glad you asked - here's a simple formula: divide your weight in pounds by two - that’s how many ounces of h2o you should be drinking each day. (so a 150-lb person needs to sip 75 ounces per day, make sense?) need help hitting your daily dose? here are 10 ways to get those water goals in check.
[sip from a (reusable) bottle you love]
as silly as it sounds, if you’re excited about your water bottle, you’re more likely to cart it around with you everywhere you go - obviously a crucial aspect of getting your water in. we personally love our sport bottle with hair ties (perfect for those times you forget your hair tie at the gym) with a straw that somehow magically makes sipping so much easier.
[infuse your water]
have you ever tried using a fitfuser water bottle? there is possibly no better way to make your agua appealing than by infusing it with flavors you love, like citrus + cucumbers or berries + mint. try these infusion combos to entice yourself to drink more water. tip: add frozen fruit to instantly chill your creative concoction.
[keep track of your intake]
when you’re tracking how many glasses of water you’re getting in each day, it’s easier to keep up with how much more you need + push yourself to get there. that’s exactly why we have a water log in each + every fitbook, fitspiration journal + planner. i mean, our to-do list even features a water tracker so you can simultaneously conquer your tasks while you sip those sips.
[drink up to wake up]
keep a cup of water by the bed each night so you can down it first thing in the a.m., before your feet even touch the floor. it’ll wake you up, get your digestion moving right along (if ya know what we mean), and get your water goals off to a good start for the day.
[replace sodas or sugary sips with water]
[refill as soon as you’re empty]
there are lots of great options nowadays to help wean you off soda painlessly AND simultaneously up your h2o intake. sparkling waters like spindrift are flavored naturally with fruit + nothing else, while brands like zevia + lacroix taste identical to soda - without the added sugar.
[guzzle a glass before every meal + snack]
when you eat at least three times a day, this gives you at least three opportunities for hydration. bonus: it’ll also ensure you don’t mistake thirst for hunger + thus help you avoid overeating! make a mental note (or an actual note in your fitbook) to chug-a-lug before each meal.
as soon as you take that last sip of water, get up + refill. the reason is simple: you’ll get a little mini break from whatever you’re engrossed in, but more importantly, you’re obviously more likely to keep drinking up throughout the day when you know there’s always a fresh sip of water awaiting you.
[schedule regular workouts - and bring your agua]
aside from the obvious health benefits of working out regularly, a good ol’ sweat sesh means that you’ll automatically be gulping down water to replenish those fluids, thus contributing to those guzzling goals.
[set water deadlines]
it’s like playing a little game with yourself. i will drink this bottle of water by 10am. i will finish this bottle of water by my lunch meeting. i will finish this bottle of water by the time this show is over. it gives you smaller, more incremental goals than just telling yourself you need to drink 64 ounces by the end of the day, so it seems more attainable.

let’s face it, when you dangle carrots, you’re much more likely to reach the finish line. if you know you’ll go see that new movie after work if you reach your daily water goal, or even better, you’ll allow yourself a little massage + pampering if you reach your daily water goal for 21 whole days, you’re probably gonna make it happen. (pssst, there’s a spot in fitbook for that.)
